Kitty’s dad clapped his hands together. ‘That’s the last box!’ he said. ‘Thanks for your help, Nadia. Now let’s go inside and eat.’

Kitty’s dad had made one of Kitty’s favourite Japanese meals. As they ate, Kitty’s parents, Nadia and Grandma talked about the shop. ‘What do you think of the things we brought back from our latest trip to Japan, Nadia?’ asked Kitty’s mum.

‘I love them,’ Nadia replied with a smile. ‘The silk parasols are beautiful. My favourite things, though, are the little smiling cat ornaments – the ones with their front paws raised up. They’re so pretty.’

‘Oh, those are called maneki-neko,’ said Kitty’s mum, sounding pleased. ‘They’re considered very lucky in Japan. Kitty loves them too, don’t you, Kitty?’

Kitty nodded, but thinking of the little china cats made her mind drift back to the kittens. She couldn’t wait for the Cat Council that night. She really hoped that the other cats would be able to help her find Frost and Snowdrop’s human.
